Is French President Emmanuel Macron dating someone new? Recent headlines and social media discussions have sparked speculation about the private life of France’s president, who also serves as one of the two Co-Princes of Andorra.
The rumors have generated significant international attention, particularly after the publication of a new political book that claims tensions may have emerged within the Macron marriage. But how much of the story is fact, and how much is speculation?
As Emmanuel Macron Returned to Andorra Alone, Rumors About His Private Life Began Spreading Across Europe
Ii is not the first time French President Emmanuel Macron visits Andorra. He already did that on September 2019 as Co-Prince of Andorra. He did so without his wife Brigitte Macron. That was not a scandal. Sometimes French Presidents visit Andorra with their wives, but sometimes they don’t.
Seven years later, President Macron has visited Andorra again as French Co-Prince. His arrival was expected and prepared as always, when a Co-Prince visits Andorra. Most andorran and french media reported that Macron would visit Andorra on April 2026 with his wife Brigitte Macron. Andorrans were expecting that with enthusiasm since in many cases French Co-Princes visit the Principality without their wives for agenda’s reasons.
Everything was prepared to welcome him and his wife Brigitte Macron. His visit was institutional but also political, since he is encouraging the Andorran Government to sign the EU Agreement. But some days before the visit, something took place and that was not about politics.
Just four days before the visit, French and Andorran Media reported that Brigitte would not visit Andorra with Emmanuel. but the most scandalous thing is that she didn’t give a reason for that. Its silence became a mystery for French people but much more for andorrans who were waiting for that moment. Brigitte Macron ended officially citing scheduling and personal commitments. But for andorran people that was surprising since it was not a common circumstance.
Under normal circumstances, the change might have attracted little attention. But this time, it coincided with growing international rumors linking Macron to one of the most famous Iranian actresses in the world: Golshifteh Farahani.
Suddenly, a question that sounds almost like the plot of a political novel began circulating online:
Could a world-famous actress one day become linked to Andorra’s princely institution?
Well, let’s figure it out…
The President Who Is Also a Prince
Outside the Pyrenees, many people remain unaware that Emmanuel Macron is not only President of France.
He is also one of the two Co-Princes of Andorra. The unusual arrangement dates back to medieval agreements signed in 1278. To avoid a religious war between two feudal Lords, Andorra adopted a system with two heads of state, the Co-Princes.
Today, those positions are held by the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell in Spain. Every time France elects a new president, that person automatically becomes Co-Prince of Andorra. In fact every French Head of State represents the Rights of the House of Foix over the Andorran Valleys.
As a result, Macron occupies one of the most unusual positions in European politics: an elected republican president who simultaneously holds a princely title.

The Visit That Sparked Curiosity
Macron’s recent visit to Andorra carried particular significance because it was his second official trip to the Principality in a moment when Andorra is attracting worldwide curiosity because of youtubers and worldwide entrepreneurs residing in the Principality. Not only that, Andorra is trying to conclude its EU Association Agreement with Co-Prince Macron being one of its main supporters.
Originally, Brigitte Macron was expected to participate in parts of the visit and had reportedly expressed enthusiasm about discovering the country. Yet only days before the trip, officials confirmed she would remain in France because of prior commitments. Andorran Media openned their portraits announcing that the French First Lady would not come.
The absence immediately attracted media attention in Andorra, especially because she had also missed Macron’s previous official visit to the Principality in 2019. On its own, the cancellation had a straightforward official explanation.
However, it occurred at a moment when speculation about the presidential couple was already growing in French media.
The Actress at the Center of the Rumors
The rumors revolve around Golshifteh Farahani, the internationally acclaimed Iranian actress who has built a successful career in France and Hollywood.
Recent claims published in a political book alleged that Macron and Farahani shared a particularly close relationship and exchanged personal messages. The allegations quickly generated headlines because they appeared amid renewed scrutiny of the Macron marriage.
Yet there remains a crucial fact often lost in the media frenzy:
No romantic relationship has been proven.
Farahani has rejected the allegations, while individuals close to the French president have also denied claims of an affair.
From Film Star to Andorran Royal Figure?
Even though the rumors remain unverified, they have captured public imagination because of Macron’s unique constitutional role.
If a future spouse of a French president became associated with the office of Co-Prince, international media would inevitably connect that person to one of Europe’s last surviving princely institutions. Technically, Andorra does not grant the formal title of “Co-Princess” to the wife of the French Co-Prince. Nevertheless, public perception would almost certainly view such a figure as occupying a symbolic role connected to the Principality.
For Golshifteh Farahani, one of the most recognizable Iranian cultural figures in the world, such a scenario would be extraordinary. The journey from Tehran-born actress to the companion of a European prince would be the kind of story that attracts global fascination.
Who is Golshifteh Farahani?
She is an acclaimed Iranian and French actress and musician. She began her acting career early and won the Best Actress prize at the Fajr International Film Festival at just 14 years old for her debut in The Pear Tree. But she became popular by starring in Ridley Scott’s Body of Lies (2008), becoming the first Iranian actress to star in a major Hollywood production.
According to wikipedia Farahani is known for her performances in M for Mother (2006), Body of Lies (2008), About Elly (2009), The Patience Stone (2012), Paterson (2016), Girls of the Sun (2018), Extraction (2020) and its sequel Extraction 2 (2023), and Invasion (2021–present). For her performance in The Patience Stone, she was nominated for Most Promising Actress at the 39th César Awards.
But she is more than an actress. She is also a human rights activist. She left Iran. Since settling in Paris, France, Farahani has openly used her platform to advocate for women’s rights, environmental issues and other questions. By some, Farahani is considered as a political figure, but now she is related to politcs for a very different reason: love and rumors…

It would not the first time the famous iranian actress gets in love with a famous personality. Farahani married Amin Mahdavi, the brother of interior designer India Mahdavi, burt they later separated. She was also in a relationship with French actor Louis Garrel. In a September 2015 interview published in Grazia, Farahani revealed that she had married Christos Dorje Walker, an Australian, five months earlier. In May 2018, she was in a relationship with a “German hippie” whom she met in the Nevada desert at the Burning Man festival. And now there are rumors that she may be in love with the French President. What most don’t realise is that this President is also a Prince.
Farahani is famous for his career and his political activism, but on the last weeks she is starting to be considered a Princely or Royal figure, which is something very few actress can say. That would put her at the level of Grace Kelly who married the Prince of Monaco. That marriage brought a lot of glamour to the Principality of Monaco. The tiny microstate has openned the covers of the most famous worldwide pink magazines . Will Andorra do the same? Honestly I don’t think so!
But, we don’t know…
Why Andorra Is Paying Attention
In Paris, the story is often treated as celebrity gossip mixed with political intrigue. But in Andorra, the context is different.
The private life of the French president has a constitutional dimension because that president is also one of the country’s heads of state and a main international figure.
That reality means events that might seem purely personal elsewhere inevitably attract attention in the Principality.
Macron’s recent visit, Brigitte Macron’s unexpected absence, and the simultaneous emergence of relationship rumors created a combination that was difficult for observers to ignore.
A Story Built on Questions, Not Facts
For now, the reality remains simple. Emmanuel Macron visited Andorra as Co-Prince. Brigitte Macron was expected to come and she cancelled the visit just 4 days before the official welcome took place. Ultimately she did not accompany him.
Rumors involving Golshifteh Farahani continue to circulate. But they are just that: rumors… And there is still no public evidence confirming a romantic relationship between the French president and the actress.
Yet because Macron is not only a president but also a prince, the speculation has taken on an unusual dimension. After all, political gossip is common.
But rumors involving an Iranian film star and one of Andorra’s Co-Princes are something Europe does not see every day.
