For seven centuries, our valleys have survived. We have outlasted empires, weathered world wars, and navigated the shifting tectonic plates of European politics. Our small country has been annexed in many occasions and its sovereignty has been threatened in unnumbered times. The two countries which surrounded and influenced us were once global empires and still we are here. We did not survive by accident. We survived because of three secret weapons most people overlook: Long-term thinking, loyalty and action.
At the end of the XIX century the country was at the verge of collapse. The industrial revolution really broke the finances of these tiny valleys. But the wealthiest peasants in the country decided to give part of their rights and power to let the country survive. They created something called La Nova Reforma, a political reform which allowed the country to modernize and to slowly recover from poverty and complete isolation. These peasants were pioneers but at their time, they were called crazy. Today it is 160 years old since the day they signed that document, La Nova Reforma and therefore we want to honor them. This is the main reason we launch the Andorran Post today.
Since that historical moment, Andorra leveraged its sovereignty in order to attract population and capital. Many people complain about the challenges that today’s Andorran society is facing, but that is nothing compared to what Andorrans faced over the last seven centuries. Andorra is now a rich and well-known country and the world is changing very fast while experiencing an exponential technological growth. We need to adapt to the new world which is coming just as Andorrans have always done. We never give up. We don’t fear the future, instead we build it!
So let’s face our current reality. Today, the world is shifting faster than ever. Technological revolutions, economic realignments, and the rise of the digital nomad are redrawing the global map. The Pyrenees are not a barrier. In fact they are a fortress. But a fortress is only as strong as the vision of the people inside it. Andorra has a huge opportunity to continue growing in all aspects.
The Threat of Stagnation
We all love the quiet life. The clean air, the safety, the deep sense of community. These are the treasures of our land. But we must be honest with ourselves: quiet life is only possible if the economic engine that sustains it remains healthy. And that is not easy.
Andorra has diluted its sovereignty in order to attract capital and population. It is a shame that now that we have given so much, now that we are succeeding, we don’t continue with our great project because of some small difficulties. We cannot allow that. Our ancestors faced many difficult times. Today’s challenges are nothing compared with their struggle. So we need and we must continue developing our country no matter to what external voices outside the country say. But remember, this should be done in a sustainable way and maybe we are not achieving that.
Standing still is not an option. The world will not wait for us. If we do not proactively design our future, the future will be designed for us by external forces. I am talking about larger nations, global tech monopolies, and shifting economic tides.
The Window of Advantage
At the end of the day, a country works like a start-up. The only thing which makes a difference between both concepts are emotions. In the startup world, there is a concept called the “Window of Advantage.” It is a brief moment in time when a new technology or market opens up, and a small, fast player can capture it before the giants wake up.
Andorra is small. That is our greatest strength. We can pivot faster than France. We can legislate faster than Spain. We can adopt new technologies, from blockchain to artificial intelligence, with a speed that makes the European Union look like a super-tanker trying to park in a tight marina. But these windows close. The opportunities we miss today will be our future regrets and we can’t allow that to happen. So we need to get out of our comfort zone and start thinking about our future seriously.
Our Mission
This media is not like the others. We post what others don’t, therefore we post the future which is what is lacking in today’s Andorran media. We talk about economics, society and technology since this is what really matters for our future. We pretend to reject politics as much as we can. Of course we look at our past, at our very humble but very unique and precious history which brought as here. The Andorran Post has born to engineer our future, but also to learn about our past. History teaches many lessons which may give us answers and how to prepare for our destiny.
The Andorran Post is about news. But we project them in a very different way. We focus on those aspects others don’t mention and we use data to give our users a more honest and realistic update. We want to go viral by telling the truth, not by telling users what they want to hear. And the truth is always on data.
Most of our current problems can only be explained from factors most medias never mention. Some of these factors are related to local regulations but the most important ones are conditioned by macroeconomics and international treaties whose influence doesn’t depend on Andorra.
We don’t just tell the news, we analyze them. If the government aproves a law, we don’t give our opinion about it, we use data, analysis, history and common sense to predict what might happen. We also deliver solutions to prevent certain situations or to improve the outcome of every decision. We don’t just tell the news, we analyze them, we predict the future and the most important thing we offer solutions to specific problems because we like to build the future.
Our vision
We have a vision and it is very clear. Andorra is a miracle in history and we know this country will succeed on the very long-term like it has always done besides many difficult challenges. Andorra’s population has increased from some 5.000 inhabitants to almost 100.000 inhabitants in just a few decades. Everyone thinks this is a great achievement. So why not reach a much higher population? We believe than Andorra can achieve 1 million inhabitants in the future. Of course, when I say future I mean decades if not centuries from now. Long-term is our vision and I think this is part of the Andorran Values.
Analysis is not everything. News are irrelevant without analysis, but analysis is also irrelevant without action. We are here to build the future. The Andorran Post main goal is to research what the country has to do in order to achieve success in the long term. And for us success means strong economy, protection of property and individual rights, good quality of life for all citizens, technological achievement and sovereignty. But that achievement has to be done respecting our idiosyncrasy and ethics must play a big role here. We need to do it in a sustainable and ethical way. This is not an easy task at all. There is a lot of work to do. We don’t want to just be a media, we want to be an inspiration for many to start projects and look for solutions to current problems. We aim to collaborate with entrepreneurs, companies, associations and other entities who want to contribute to the development and growth of this old and smart country. We don’t want simply to tell the news, we want to make the news real. This is itself something new in media.
We are not here to complain or to divide. We exist to serve the optimists, the entrepreneurs, the investors, the open-minded and the citizens who look at these mountains and see not just a place to live and work, but a haven.
We are a neutral ground. Just as Andorra has remained a diplomatic bridge for centuries, this platform is a bridge for ideas—free from partisan politics, driven only by data, logic, and what is best for the Principality.
Dreams can come true
If someone said more than 700 years ago, when this jurisdiction was founded, that in the XXI Century Andorra would still exist being one of the most successful countries on Earth, that person would have been called crazy. And look, here we are…
Some will call us crazy for saying this, but we believe Andorra can become the Alpine Singapore of Europe. We believe that a country of 90,000 inhabitants can evolve to host a million minds a century from now. A million innovators, creators, and builders, connected to the world but protected by the mountains.
Is the infrastructure ready today? No. For sure, it is not. But was our infrastructure ready 80 years ago to reach a population of 90,000 inhabitants? No, it wasn’t. And we are here. But the vision must be drawn today so the infrastructure can follow. We must ask the difficult questions: Should we transition into a non-inflationary economy? How do we become a global hub for green data centers? What happens when AI replaces traditional banking? How can we build more durable and sustainable infrastructure? And many more interesting questions…
We will not shout these questions; we will solve them. We will provide the data, draft the blueprints, and open the debate.
